I bought this not realising it was only 100mbps ports which makes it practically useless but I thought I’d give it the benefit of the doubt and use it ONLY for connecting my internet to two WAN connections (two x 70 mbps down 18mbps up). After installing this unit I noticed the CPU was pegging almost 100% when using the UI – every now and then it would bug out and the CPU would remain at 100% so it’d need a hard reboot. Avoiding going into the UI was the only way to reduce the incidence but it didn’t stop the problem… I also noticed poor network performance since installing the device but I’d recently moved premises so the network layout was different – hence I blamed the move not this device. So I updated the firmware as recommended by the manufacturer – seemed to improve it slightly but now the problems were happening more and more randomly rather than when visiting UI like the other versions. I noticed that since installing this router my domain controller was having difficulty determining which network it was part of I had frequent disconnects while others were watching HD content and I was trying to play games – only to try to login to the UI of this router and noticed it’s been completely unresponsive and in need of a hard reboot.Do yourself a favour and buy yourself a normal 5 port router that supports OpenWrt then set up your vlans and mwan3 – you’ll save way more cash and have a FAR better device.

This is a really excellent piece of hardware. Its was really easy to setup a ‘Failover’ for a cable/fiber connection to a 4G modem. The ping times on 4G were only 40ms more (three home MiFi upto 150Mbps up and down). After performing the basic settings choose ‘Advanced Load Balance then the ‘Link Backup’ tab. Drag the blue WAN1 icon into the ‘Primary WAN’ and the other blue WAN2 into the ‘Backup WAN’ click add and thats it.If the primary WAN is unplugged or loses web access it almost seamlessly switches to the backup/fallover.I noticed a very small gap of a few seconds when using teamviewer during the switchover. You must make sure that both internet connections have different ip’s e.g. 192.168.8.1 for one and 192.168.5.1 for the other. There’s plenty of help available on the forums if you get stuck.

I now have three separate Internet lines to from sky and one from talk talk connected into this route. For this to work I took the standard sky and talk talk routers that they supplied and connect them to the respective phone lines by their filters. Each of these routers the two sky and the talk talk required their subnet IP addresses changed to be unique. Thus there were typically 192.16 8.4.1I simply connected a standard patch cable from the LAN of each of the routers into one of the ports of the load balancer. In configuring the load balancer one had to change each of the LAN points to be a WAN point. As well as give the load balancer its own subnet IP address which in fact I left as default.I then connected its WAN port to my main network switch and from there of course all the computers are attached. The key point for me was having to discover that the routers of sky and talk talk required their IP addresses and subnet addresses to be changed to be different to my load balancer.Once this works traffic was being rooted through the three separate broadband lines that I had. While this did not increase the speed on speed test because of course they are not bonded .An analogy here is that one adds extra two lanes to a motorway which allows more cars to travel along but still they are limited to 70 miles an hour. The fail safe certainly works if I am plug one of the broadband connectors then I still have Internet connection.I do not think there is a way that one can increase the speed from a single computer by bonding the broadband connections in the UK.Nevertheless the product worked out of the box and had it working in about 30 minutes. A very cheap and practical solution.

I look after an item of mobile equipment that required plugging in to a fixed network point to upload data. This was inconvenient to the customer so a wireless adaptor was fitted. Unfortunately there was only one network interface on the equipment so there wasn’t an option of having a wired connection as well as the wireless in addition the wireless and wired networks were in different static IP address ranges so a simple plug-in solution wasn’t possible. All was okay until the wireless network failed and the data couldn’t be uploaded! This device was the perfect solution. The mobile equipment was given a ‘private’ IP address on the LAN side of the router the wireless adaptor was plugged into one WAN port and the equipment’s network cable connection socket was connected to another WAN port. The router was configured for the wired connection to be the primary WAN and the wireless adaptor to be the fallback. So in normal use the router is actually running in a fallback situation but when the cabled connection is plugged in the router automatically sends the data over the cable. This means that a wireless network failure further down the line won’t stop data transfer over the wired connection. Phew!

Good solid product manages our network well and is used to combine 4G and Satellite connections. Specifically routes all DNS requests to 4G whilst sending everything else via space. Admin interface takes a bit of getting used to and policy routing rules etc will only work if you have more than one connection configured – seems obvious now but caught me out in the set up.
