In 15 years working as a journalist and documentary filmmaker in some pretty rough places I have never had a single piece of equipment get damaged while traveling. But after just a couple weeks of using this monitor it somehow became internally damaged during a 2 hr flight from Chicago to Dallas while wrapped in the provided protective cover and in a padded laptop sleeve in my carry on bag. I contacted Asus who told me they cannot replace repair or refund the screen since the warranty does not cover physical damage. To market this monitor as a “travel monitor” is a joke. It’s the most fragile piece of equipment I’ve ever owned a complete waste of money.During the couple weeks of use broke it worked OK although not very bright. There are *far better* and *far cheaper* monitor options out there than this one. The only plus for this monitor is its size and weight but if it can’t survive being carefully tucked in a bag then it’s useless. Do not buy it.

I was wasting too much time doing back and forth between documents / windows on my 13-inch screen. I have been using a cable to hook up my laptop to my TV screen which was OK but obviously limited.I wanted a USB Type C monitor so after some search I found the ZenScreen. It was plug and play instantly.The screen is light the settings easy to adjust and the picture quality is plenty sufficient for my needs. Personally I never had issues adjusting brightness and didn’t download any software. As mentioned my experience was plug and play.Since my MacBook only has 2 ports I wanted to plug the screen into my adaptor (Ugreen). Unfortunately the screen only works when directly connected to the laptop (I only have this adaptor so I don’t know if it will be the same with others). Also the screen auto-rotation feature doesn’t work with a Mac which is not problematic for me but could be for others.The cable connection is on the left side. This is a bit annoying. It would have been nice to have the choice of connecting on either side or at least having a different cable end so it doesn’t stick out so much.The impact of the screen on the laptop battery is significant: doing regular web searches using Office apps (Word Powerpoint Excel) downloading and reading PDFs I had a total of 3h40 with the screen VS approximately 8h without it.Overall although a bit pricey I like the screen and it is quite useful for certain type of work. Since it considerably drains my laptop battery I have to restrict my usage to places where I can charge.

La pantalla (MB16AMT) cumple su objetivo su portabilidad es de lo mejor. Su taza de refresco es de 60Hz así que si eres gamer también te sirve. Lo he conectado a la Nintendo Switch y va de maravilla. La conecto a la Asus Zenbook y aunque tiene puerto USB C no da vídeo constante la tengo que conectar por HDMI. Hasta ahora no he logrado echar a andar el touch cuando la conecto a la Zenbook pero si la conecto al galaxy S10 este lo detecta como si fuera el dock y eso es genial. La parte inferior es muy frágil así que hay que tener cuidado con eso.

I purchased this device with the intent to help me when I am working on the move and as a third monitor whenever I am at my usual working setup.The packing is very protective. My monitor came underneath two layers of recyclable packing which was inside the ASUS fancy box which was inside another box and finally inside an Amazon box.The monitor feels very light as it should be for a portable accessory. I have found the overall build quality of the monitor to be satisfactory. I would however not put it in a bag with a lot of weight that could fall on the screen. The folding support that comes with it does not give a lot of protection and does not cover the sides.The pen that comes with it is just a pen with a rubber touch-compatible top not an active pen. I also confirm that the monitor does not recognize an active pen.The navigation button is a bit small and hard to play with.It was really easy to set it up for first use: I just connected its USB-C port to the one of my computer and I had it working as a third monitor ready to go. I installed the recommended ASUS DisplayWidget application and the display driver and the colour- and scenario-tuning options that are available within the navigation button became more easily accessible.I have found the screen to be very satisfactory. I really enjoyed the contrast and the brightness level looks alright to me. The colours are not that crazy but to me are more than passable. Because most of my work relies on research programming and text-editing extreme colour accuracy is not essential to me.I could not get the touch function to work well with three monitors but I dedicated less than five minutes to set it up. I can see it works but it is selecting things on my second monitor instead of on my portable one.The speakers sound like if I had gone to Dollarama and purchased 4$ speakers. They are mediocre. I can however understand that they may be necessary to those that want to plug this screen into their phones and watch videos.In summary I think that this is a good portable monitor and that it will certainly help with my productivity.If I could ask ASUS to change something it would be for them to honour the price tag on this device and provide 1440p or 4K screens and a better case.Rant on Amazon Warehouse Deals:Because of both price and mitigated environmental impact I decided to purchase a Used option through Amazon Warehouse Deals.Amazon mentioned that the item would come in original packing and that there would be small cosmetic imperfections on the sides of the item.I was very impressed to open it and notice that all items looked unopened and unused. After unpacking I noticed that the top left corner of the screen had a significant dent to it.Given that the packing is so protective it is hard to imagine other situations different than the one that a previous buyer might have dropped the screen when unpacking it. The monitor seems to be working fine but ASUS Warranty mentions that their 3-year warranty may be voided if the item has been damaged by the user or by a third party. Because of this I will unfortunately have to return this screen.It would be very important if Amazon considered becoming more specific in the description of Used and Opened Box options within their Warehouse Deals products.I believe that replacing “cosmetic imperfections” with more detailed information such as “significant deformation” or “scratch” could help with unnecessary shipping and returns.

The screen worked great but the build quality needs to be improved. It is super fragile! Just holding it I had constant sounds and creaks come from it. The plastic bezel cracked in the top corner within the first week. Then I bumped my phone into the screen and it totally cracked the lcd. What makes it even worse is that when I sent it in to get repaired the repair cost is more than buying a new one. Very unfortunate because this product checked off all the boxes for what I need in a product like this. Despite this I will probably buy it again unless I find a better alternative.Edit: I was able to find a replacement screen on Amazon for $150 over night shipped for free and after removing the bezel which is held on by a few clips around each side of the screen I disconnected a cable connecting the broken screen connected new screen snapped the bezel back into place and it is as good as new the fact that Asus tried to scam me into saying this is not possible to repair compared to it being one of the most simplest repairs I have ever done has cost Asus a customer for life…
