Have several Echos around the house but wanted something for the living room with better sound quality . Therefore when I saw Bose had bought out this speaker with Alexa integrated I was tempted . Set up out of the box was easy and straightforward. Download Bose music app and follow simple instructions to set up and link to amazon account for Alexa . Once done the speaker then updates itself . Whole process took less than 10 mins. Sound quality is what you would expect from Bose – excellent . Bass and treble can be adjusted from within app . Speaker can also be controlled from Alexa app once linked . Smart home devices already linked work perfectly . Connecting other devices via Bluetooth is also very simple . Although at first this speaker may seem a little expensive you get what you pay for and it is worth every penny . I am delghted with it and wouldn’t hesitate to recommendUPDATEHad this speaker for a couple of weeks now and still absolute delighted with it . Thought I would update my review to clarify the number of Vine reviews that complain about the 2 pin plug theirs seemed to come with . For anyone thinking of purchasing this item it comes supplied with a standard three pin plug so no issue and no need to order an adaptor . Hope this helps

First the good points – impressive packaging surrounds a well made superbly designed product which oozes quality. And the sound quality is awesome compared to other sound devices.However….To state that this is Alexa compatible is like saying Hannibal Lecter is a vegetarian because he eats fava beans…it misses the Important meaty truth…Alexa compatibility is flakey erratic temperamental and annoying…like being married again.Issues are basic – I’m not taking about right of arc Alexa functions but basic – play Spotify/Audible/BBC Radio…most of the time it does The Basics correctly but around 25% of the time it – starts and won’t stop playing causes other Alexa items in the house to play the request fails to wake up – who’s not been there plays random stuff when told what to play – ok maybe there is a sophisticated filter to quash my guilty playlist secrets but…or it simply won’t recognise a simple command ie it plays radio when asked to play Spotify won’t link on the Alexa phone app to a group sulks when asked to play certain playlists…and I could almost live with these quirks because the sound quality is so good.But it’s a hefty price and Bose should be able to make a truly Alexa compatible device…unless their tech dept is run by my ex in which case it’s a perfect replica of her functionality…

This is a great speaker with great connection functionality. The biuld quality is excellent as is the sound quality that you would expect from a BOSE product however the Alexa functionality is limited.I purchased this as it had a built in clock and would be a great replacement for my BOSE Wave 3 system as I could wake up to an Internet radio station or my favourite music from Amazon Music account and use it to add to my multiroom set up using Alexa. Wrong! These functions are not available on the BOSE HS 500 however you can use the normal “Alexa” beep alarm which for me was no good.I contacted BOSE technical support who stated that these functions is not available and they can’t say whether they will become available when/if a software update becomes available.So as a “clock radio” it does not work well for me and as a multiroom speaker via Alexa it didn’t work either.For any other function a great little speaker.

This is a great speaker. The sound quality is awesome. Really lovely tone with rich bass and crisp treble. Some initial issues during set-up but got there in the end. The Bose app also took a bit of working out – you need to click on the picture of the speaker to get to the sound controls.But my one issue with what is truly a great speaker – the display function. This is a great feature being able to see a crisp clear picture of your album art of the music you are playing. But the fail – at some point the picture gets lost and you end up with a black display. It is easy to remedy – just select one of your preset buttons and then select the music you were originally playing. But this happens almost every day – it is annoying. The reason I chose this speaker over a similar priced product was the display feature. This was the deal maker for me. So very disappointed about this failing regularly. The BOSE forums have many people complaining about this issue. BOSE are aware and may (or may not) fix this via a firmware update in the future? If you are not overly bothered about the display then this is the speaker for you. But if you want to see your album art as well then just be aware – this is a current issue that may be fixed at a later date.Oh – one other thing I forgot to mention – this speaker can’t access Alexa routines. I think that may be a proprietary thing that you can only access routines on Amazon devices only. I don’t use them so not an issue for me. All other Alexa skills/features are supported.
