So I set up my new rig last night the soundbar 700 bass unit and surround speakers and after an hour or so faffing around rearranging my setup (blu ray player sky Q xbox etc) I ran into a problem. I was only getting sound from non-HD Sky channels. After a bit of research and fiddling around with the settings it turns out that I had to turn the Dolby digital 5.1 off in the settings on the Sky box (and thus returning to bog-standard stereo). Similarly in the settings on my xbox it defaulted to stereo and when I tried to select 5.1 surround it wouldn’t accept it.Now I will clarify that my tv (an ageing Samsung PS51D550 plasma) does not have HDMI-ARC and so I have connected the tv to the soundbar via optical cable (with the sky Q box connected to the tv via HDMI and also the xbox to the tv via hdmi). Is this the issue? Can I not enjoy HD Sky channels and xbox games with 5.1 surround unless my tv supports HDMI ARC and thus can send a 5.1 signal to the soundbar? I must admit I haven’t tested it fully yet by trying to watching something on Sky that I know is broadcast in full 5.1 as it got too late last night but on the face of it it appears I need to update my tv.I’ve only had one evening playing around with it so I’ve got plenty of research left to do so I may provide an update in the future. In the meantime just a few quick points to note:It looks beautiful in the arctic white colourMusic sounds awesome through itThe sub adds deep thunderous bass. I have the unit behind the sofa and you can physically feel it! Amazing!Speech sounds so much clearer compared to my old £300 samsung home theater set up. Some programs you struggle to hear what is being said then when there’s a bit of action or incidental music it blares out. Not so with the bose. It seems to smooth out all the sounds and levels out the volumes of different sounds and speeach really stands out.The light-up remote control is a revelation. It goes to sleep when you put it down then lights up when you pick it up. And it’s contextual. It only lights up the buttons that are relevant to what you are doing at that point. Any buttons that won’t have any function don’t light up. My old remote had those glow in the dark buttons for the main functions but were useless. Now I can actually see what I’m pressing in the dark!!

The main issue was that if my TV was set to Dolby (samsung q8f) the soundbar would cut off the first second of noise if their was a moment of no noise. So for example I turned Sonic the Hedgehog on and there is no noise until the game boots up and shouts SEGAAA! But the soundbar will miss off the first part of the word SEGA and only getting the GAA… this happens all the time with anything it’s like if there’s a moment of no noise the Bose turns off and takes a second to kick back into action once there’s sound.Also while a clear sound no point in buying this without the sub.No volume indicator on the device which is inconvenient.If I’ve had a loud film on Alex will be insanely loud it’s a shame you can’t set a max volume for her voice.Set up took ages.audio syncing issues…My 6 year old soundbar while lacking the clarity of this soundbar beats it in every other category that I just mentioned and came with a sub and cost me £450 in 2013.

Sound quality seems good but I’m no expert.I got mine because I wanted the Bluetooth functionality. I’m getting a projector which will be located on one side of the room but the soundbar will be on the other about 4m away. A Bluetooth transmitter (TaoTronic) plugged into the projector via optic link will transmit to the Bose soundbar.Personally I don’t think there are sufficient instructions supplied with the soundbar and the online or in-app help and support pages are not very useful IMHO.Alexa works ok but some people have had problems. I think this might arise if an Ethernet cable is plugged in as well as WiFi connected at the same time. Alexa went away for some time and it took ages for me to sort out how to get her back. I don’t know why this happened. The help pages were useless.

First things first the sound from this thing is gorgeous and a step up from my current setup (two edifier Bookshelf speakers). Solid bass great midtones and huge soundstage considering it’s just a soundbar.But that’s where it stops…. The whole setup process and integration with my TV and Google environment is just plain awful.Full story below but to summarise:• Great Sound• Cannot cast Google Music (it has google assistant but does not support casting YT Music. It only supports Amazon and Spotify!!)• Audio through HDMI Arc did not work for me (I DID plug it into the ARC port on my Philips TV)• Universal remote is pants (relay to tv is laggy and mostly just doesn’t work)• No aux port (seriously at £800 there’s not 1 single aux port!!)• I spent 2 ½ hours trying to set it up to no avail.• When I turn the TV on it insists on switching to the ARC channel which tells me to download the app (which I had already done!!)• For £800 I expect it to just work with minor tweaks.I have a very simple TV Setup NVIDIA Shield TV connected to my Philips TV. For sound I currently use the output from my TV into two Edifier Bookshels speakers. That’s it! I run everything from Netflix to Freeview through my NVIDIA Shield TV. It works great.The missing piece was a better movie experience by having a better dialogue/sound separation. Hence my £800 (eight hundred!) investment in a Bose Soundbar.There is NO manual whatsoever on how to set up the system other than “Plug in and download an app” for next steps. I can deal with that. BUT before I can use the app I have to create a BOSE account! I shouldn’t need an account in order to use my £800 soundbar!App downloaded and it automatically found my Phillips TV so that the included universal remote can control everything (allegedly….). I connected the HDMI cable to my ARC port on the TV… Nothing no sound no nothing. I changed settings on TV to ensure it was all set to play through HDMI. Nothing. I scoured through the countless options in the app (which has a terrible layout). No sound. I decided to try the optical cable to ensure it wasn’t a faulty soundbar. Success! So the soundbar worked. I then plugged the ARC cable back in nothing but silence. I spent the next 2 hours (two hours) playing around with the TV settings and the settings on my £800 soundbar. Could not get sound through ARC.To top it off the universal remote did not play nice with my TV at all. Laggy (press button wait 5 seconds press button again) and the remote itself uses LED lights to highlight buttons so unless those are on you can’t see anything. And it’s flat so you can’t feel your way around the remote.At this point I had already decided to return the £800(!) soundbar but before that I wanted to play some music just to remember the good sound that it produces. I set up Google Assistant and said “Ok Google play some music”. The response?….. “Sorry but Youtube Music is not supported on this device”. GREAT!So back to square one….find another soundbar. Did I say that this cost £800????

One of the best sounding bar. You really can’t go wrong with bose. Clarity of the sound quality and it emerse the room. Bought it for my bedroom as have full surround sound for my living room. Great way to have clean soround for your bedroom as did not want tower speakers. Remote is very useful and I can control my tv and Xbox One X.
